Description

55 gallon black tight head steel drum, new, with a non-removable top and two threaded openings for filling and dispensing. Built from carbon steel with a rust inhibitor, it is the sealed metal drum used across US industry for oils, lubricants, chemicals, and other liquids that should not be exposed to air or easy tampering. The white closed top carries 2″ and 3/4″ NPT Tri-Sure style plug and flange fittings with Buna gaskets.

Its UN1A1/X1.4/300 liquid rating covers Packing Groups I, II and III, so it can carry higher-hazard liquids than a Y-rated drum within its specific gravity limit.

How It Compares

When you need to reach inside the drum, the 55 gallon black open head steel drum has a removable bolt ring cover. For a plastic alternative that won’t rust, see the 55 gallon blue tight head plastic drum. More in tight head steel drums.

FAQ

Can the top be removed?

No. A tight head drum has a permanent top; access is through the 2″ and 3/4″ plugs.

Is the drum lined?

No. The rust inhibitor protects the steel before filling but is not a lining.

What does X in the UN rating mean?

It means the drum is approved for Packing Groups I, II and III, up to 1.4 specific gravity in this case.
